Driftwood Canoe Club, with support from The Loughs Agency, has set up the Foyle Bubble Challenge.
This exciting Clipper Week event will take place from 12pm to 6pm Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th July with the Final on Saturday 21st from 6-8pm.
What is the Challenge?
Teams of three people will take part in a timed challenge (15 mins); through and around a series of obstacles set up in the Marina space next to the Council offices.
What’s the ‘Bubble’ about?
‘I didn’t come up the Foyle in a Bubble!’ used to be a common phrase used in this area and meant ‘I’m not as naive as you think I am!’. Now you get the chance to go up the foyle with a bubble.
We are giving an anti-litter message by including a ‘BubbleChum’ in each team. As well as the two paddlers, the third member (the BubbleChum) will play their part by carrying our symbolic pink bubble. With this bubble, they will be asked to complete tasks as the paddlers manoeuvre the canoe through the obstacles. We will let you know more on the day. The final task however is to ‘dump the bubble’ in a bin, which will signal the end of your timed challenge.
The winning team will receive a trophy and all team members will receive a memento to celebrate their efforts and participation in the Clipper Week. Will your team top the leader board at the end of the week? Demand is expected to be high – so act now!
Important info: All safety equipment will be provided by the event organisers, including buoyancy aids and specialist hoist/sling to facilitate wheelchair users in and out of canoes. We will endeavour to facilitate all users but health & safety and weather conditions may affect our ability to do so. Please bring waterproof clothes as participants may get wet during the activity. Activity suitable for all abilities.
Please arrive 30 mins BEFORE your session begins to allow for registration and safety breifing.
This activity has been delivered with the support of the Loughs Agency – Developing the potential of the River Foyle.

You must bring your printed ticket with you on the day. Event open to ages 10+. If one participant is aged 10-18 years, the two other team members must be adults (over 18 years), one of whom must have parental/guardian responsibility.
